“This draft report confirms what we’ve already known for years: the Tijuana River sewage crisis is actively harming our health. It’s not just about foul smells—it’s about being able to breathe freely and not suffer from tight chests or asthma attacks because our bodies aren’t getting the oxygen they need. We must pass Measure B  and finally clean up the sewage that’s emitting these toxic fumes.”

Today, the Yes on Measure B campaign made the case for passing the November initiative following a new county report revealing the Tijuana River sewage crisis costs San Diego $500 million a year and up to $8 billion over two decades. Joined by Supervisors Paloma Aguirre and Terra Lawson-Remer, former Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina and business leaders, the coalition highlighted Measure B as the essential solution to fund critical U.S.-side infrastructure.

Today, the Yes on B campaign officially launched its push to pass Measure B, the San Diego Health and Safety Act, backed by a broad coalition of firefighters, doctors, child advocates, and environmental leaders at the San Diego County Administration Building.

Deep federal healthcare cuts will strip health coverage from an estimated 170,000 local residents, overcrowd emergency rooms, and drive further hospital layoffs unless voters approve Measure B this November, healthcare leaders and Medi-Cal recipients warned today at a San Diego roundtable.

Today, Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest endorsed Measure B, the San Diego Health & Safety Act, joining firefighters, nurses, frontline workers and others in supporting the measure to fund critical San Diego county services like wildfire prevention and healthcare. 

Instead of continuing to wait on Washington and Mexico to act, San Diego has the power to combat the Tijuana River sewage crisis with Measure B this November. We cannot afford to miss this moment. Measure B funds the bipartisan plan to stop toxic sewage from fouling our air, water, and beaches. Without it, our progress stalls.

We have a real chance to clean up the toxic sewage DC and Mexico politicians have failed to do for years, but only by passing Measure B in November. Measure B will enable San Diegans to finally clean up the Tijuana River and prevent the toxic sewage poisoning our air, water and beaches. With this smart plan and Measure B, we can turn this toxic tide and protect clean air and water for all.

Wednesday’s events - a brush fire in East County during a County hearing on fire preparedness - underscore need for Measure B’s additional funding to combat wildfires in San Diego County.

In response to last week’s lay-offs at Sharp HealthCare triggered by federal funding cuts, John Clark, deputy district vice president of San Diego County Firefighters CAL-Fire Local 2881, called on voters to approve Measure B, warning that San Diego County "cannot wait" for state or federal intervention to protect our essential services.

Following the news that federal budget cuts were driving Sharp HealthCare to lay off 260 frontline healthcare workers, San Diego Foundation president and CEO Mark Stuart issued a stark warning to San Diegans: our healthcare safety nets will end as we know it – unless voters vote “Yes” on Measure B. 

Sharp HealthCare’s decision announced yesterday to lay off 260 frontline healthcare workers is the direct result of last year’s federal healthcare cuts, the Yes on Measure B campaign warned today, stressing that San Diego faces a rapidly escalating medical crisis unless voters intervene this November.

The citizen-led measure will now head to voters this November as supporters launch what is expected to be a major countywide grassroots campaign focused on cleaning up the Tijuana River toxic sewage crisis, protecting healthcare, public safety, and children’s services from devastating federal cuts and growing regional crises.
