Statement: Supervisors’ Plan Is Our Best Chance To Combat Tijuana River’s Toxic Sewage Crisis

Voters Must Pass Measure B or Face Another 60 Years of Tijuana’s Sewage Contaminating Our Beaches and Communities 

SAN DIEGO, CA— Today, the Yes on Measure B campaign voiced strong support following a major proposal by San Diego County Board of Supervisors Chair Terra Lawson-Remer and Chair Pro Tem Paloma Aguirre to confront the ongoing Tijuana River Crisis. The proposed plan, the most decisive initiative on the U.S. side of the border in 60 years, calls for advanced water-cleaning infrastructure designed to intercept and filter raw sewage before it hits our beaches and communities. The campaign issued the following statement: 

 “We have a real chance to clean up the toxic sewage DC and Mexico politicians have failed to do for years, but only by passing Measure B in November. Measure B will enable San Diegans to finally clean up the Tijuana River and prevent the toxic sewage poisoning our air, water and beaches. With this smart plan and Measure B, we can turn this toxic tide and protect clean air and water for all.” 

If passed, Measure B would fund critical environmental and infrastructure projects to halt the Tijuana River sewage. Measure B would also strengthen San Diego County’s wildfire preparedness, boost 911 emergency response services, and protect access to local healthcare.

Measure B is a citizen-led initiative on the November 2026 ballot designed to protect local healthcare coverage, public health programs, 911 emergency response, and combat the Tijuana River sewage crisis. Measure B is endorsed by community advocates and labor including
