Yes on B Campaign Celebrates Passage of Measure B To Protect San Diego County’s Public Safety

SAN DIEGO, CA—Following a decisive vote across San Diego County, the Yes on B campaign today declared victory for Measure B, the San Diego Health and Safety Act. The latest results from Thursday’s update from the San Diego County Registrar returns show voters approving the measure by 51.74%, securing the simple majority required to deliver critical local funding to improve emergency response, protect local healthcare access, ramp up wildfire prevention and public safety efforts, tackle the decades-long Tijuana River sewage crisis, and provide affordable, safe childcare. The campaign issued the following statement:

“This week, San Diegans sent a powerful message: When Washington and Sacramento cut our funding, we take care of our own. Voters recognized the urgent threats to our community—longer 911 response times, gutted healthcare, rising wildfire threats, a scarcity of childcare, and toxic sewage poisoning our children and beaches–and took a stand at the ballot box. The voters have done their part, and starting now, we get to work to protect San Diego."

Measure B was placed on the ballot in May after a broad coalition of community leaders, working people, environmental protectors and children’s advocates came together and gathered 121,225 valid signatures from voters, clearing the required threshold of 102,923 by 110 percent.

Statement from Courtney Baltiyskyy and Erin Hogeboom, co-founders of Children First San Diego

“For far too long, working families across our region have suffered in silence searching for quality, affordable childcare. Meanwhile, childcare providers struggling to make ends meet are having to close their doors. At the end of the day, it’s our children who lose out. Children First San Diego was founded from a place of hope, with the belief that children and youth are at the center of a thriving community, and that their health and safety is our collective responsibility. San Diegans saying ‘YES!’ on Measure B is a resounding agreement of that shared vision.”

Statement from John Clark, deputy district vice president of San Diego County Firefighters CAL FIRE Local 2881

“After seeing the devastation of the 2025 Los Angeles fires, we warned that San Diego County couldn’t afford to fall behind on wildfire prevention or emergency response—especially with federal and state budget cuts threatening our readiness. Today, San Diego voters stepped up to protect our communities and refused to let our 911 response and public safety slip. On behalf of the men and women of San Diego County Firefighters, CAL FIRE Local 2881, thank you for standing with your firefighters. You are giving us the tools and reinforcements we need to stop wildfires before they turn into catastrophes, and we are ready to get to work keeping San Diego County safe.”

Statement from Mark Stuart, President & CEO, San Diego Foundation

“As a community foundation, we have a responsibility to help residents make informed decisions, working alongside nonprofit partners who are deeply connected to the people they serve. This is what community is all about: bringing people together, listening to one another and recognizing that we all have a role to play in building a just, equitable and resilient San Diego. We look forward to carrying that spirit of collaboration forward as Measure B is implemented and we continue working together to improve quality of life for all San Diegans.”

Statement from Crystal Irving, President, SEIU Local 221

“Our frontline healthcare workers step up and put themselves on the line every day for San Diego County. Without action, cuts from Washington and Sacramento would make it impossible for them to do their jobs, and care across our region would suffer. With Measure B, we can and will recruit, retain, and support our nurses, mental health professionals and first responders so every family gets the care they need when it matters most."

Statement from Supervisor Paloma Aguirre, District 1

"San Diego County residents have made their voices heard: after decades of enduring the Tijuana River sewage crisis, our communities voted for action and proved they are ready for the County to lead on these issues. By taking matters into our own hands, we are securing dedicated local funding to stop toxic pollution at its source, clean up the air our children breathe, and protect the health of families who have carried the burden of this crisis for far too long. Combined with vital expansions in healthcare, childcare, and public safety, Measure B gives us the local tools needed to safeguard public health and restore the quality of life our communities deserve."

Statement from Mel Katz, Civic Leader

“San Diego County has always risen to the occasion when faced with challenges, with neighbors helping neighbors. The passage of Measure B is a testament to that spirit. Once again, San Diegans have chosen to invest in one another and in our shared future. This citizens' initiative was about much more than a ballot measure. It was about ensuring working parents can afford childcare, families have access to essential healthcare, and our beaches are clean and safe. By approving Measure B, San Diegans have demonstrated their belief in what we can accomplish together and their commitment to a stronger, healthier, and more prosperous region for generations to come.”

Statement from Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe, District 4

“San Diego County voters have made it clear that protecting the health and well-being of our communities is a priority. President Trump has cut federal healthcare funding, threatening access to care for thousands of San Diegans. We have a responsibility to respond. Measure B reflects our community’s commitment to protecting one another. It will provide important funding to strengthen County Medical Services and its ability to deliver healthcare to low-income, uninsured adults.”

Statement from County Board of Supervisors Chair Terra Lawson-Remer

“In the face of corruption and disastrous policies in Washington, voters came together to tackle our most urgent challenges — voting to clean-up the Tijuana sewage crisis, protect healthcare for families, ensure that firefighters and 911 responders are there when we need them, and help families afford childcare. As a mom of 2 young kids and Chair of the Board of Supervisors, I am incredibly grateful for the vision and leadership of the citizens coalition who organized this measure, and to the voters for taking a stand for the future of San Diego.”

Measure B was a citizen-led initiative on the November 2026 ballot designed to protect local healthcare coverage, public health programs, 911 emergency response, public safety, and safe, affordable childcare in San Diego County. Measure B was endorsed by community advocates and labor including San Diego Foundation, League of Women Voters San Diego, Planned Parenthood of Pacific Southwest Action Fund, the American Academy of Pediatrics-San Diego Chapter 3, Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties, San Diego County Firefighters CAL-FIRE Local 2881, Surfrider Foundation San Diego, San Diego Coastkeeper, and First 5 San Diego.
