San Diego Climate Week Kicks Off With Measure B & Paddle-Out in Coronado
CORONADO, CA — Yesterday, the Yes on B campaign helped kick off the second annual San Diego Climate Week with an impactful opening ceremony and community paddle-out in Coronado, highlighting the ongoing toxic sewage flowing into local waters from the Tijuana River.
Measure B addresses two of the most urgent climate-related threats facing San Diego County: the chronic Tijuana River sewage crisis and devastating wildfire risks. By putting funding and decision-making directly into local hands, Measure B empowers San Diego County to build, manage, and scale its own sewage treatment infrastructure, restoring the river, local estuaries, and coastal waters.
“Measure B is about keeping San Diego safe. It is about helping our communities recover from toxic pollution while adapting to the harsh realities of a changing climate,” said Courtney Baltiyskyy, leader of the Tijuana River Coalition. “We must pass Measure B to ensure San Diego County can protect its residents and secure its future.”
In addition to water infrastructure, Measure B addresses the escalating risk of year-round wildfire seasons, amplified by El Niño growth cycles and newly updated state hazard maps that classify several urban San Diego neighborhoods as "very high risk" for the first time. Measure B works to prevent wildfires before they start by:
Scaling up countywide brush-clearing operations to eliminate fuels.
Expanding ground forces by placing more firefighters in impacted communities.
Boosting emergency response with upgraded nighttime aerial firefighting capabilities and essential regional safety equipment.
Measure B has earned endorsements from leaders of San Diego Climate Week and the Tijuana River Coalition, including the Surfrider Foundation, San Diego Coastkeeper, Stop the Sewage, Climate Action Campaign, 4 Walls International, and Outdoor Outreach.
Measure B is a citizen-led initiative on the November 2026 ballot designed to protect local healthcare coverage, public health programs, 911 emergency response, and combat the Tijuana River sewage crisis. Measure B is endorsed by community advocates and labor including Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest, San Diego County Firefighters CAL FIRE Local 2881, Surfrider Foundation, San Diego Coastkeeper, and First 5 San Diego.
