Statement:  Approval of Supervisors’ Plan Puts Us Closer to Solving Tijuana River Crisis, But We Need Measure B to Make it Reality

Without Measure B, The Bipartisan Proposal To Capture The River’s Toxic Sewage Before Will Stall  

SAN DIEGO, CA— Today, the Yes on Measure B campaign applauded the San Diego County Board of Supervisors’ bipartisan passage of the Tijuana River Capture and Cleanup Initiative, which will build a new treatment system to capture the toxic sewage from the river. The campaign issued the following statement: 

“Instead of continuing to wait on Washington and Mexico to act, San Diego has the power to combat the Tijuana River sewage crisis with Measure B this November. We cannot afford to miss this moment. Measure B funds the bipartisan plan to stop toxic sewage from fouling our air, water, and beaches. Without it, our progress stalls.” 

If passed, Measure B would help fund the Tijuana River Capture and Cleanup Initiative. Measure B would also strengthen San Diego County’s wildfire preparedness, boost 911 emergency response services, and protect access to local healthcare.

Measure B is a citizen-led initiative on the November 2026 ballot designed to protect local healthcare coverage, public health programs, 911 emergency response, and combat the Tijuana River sewage crisis. Measure B is endorsed by community advocates and labor including Sierra Club–San Diego Chapter, Surfrider Foundation, San Diego Coast Keeper, and Diego County Firefighters CAL FIRE Local 2881, and First 5 San Diego.
